Vehicle Checks
|
| Suspension |
|
| If you suspect
that you have a problem with your cars steering or suspension,or you just want
a periodic check, here is a basic examination you can make........... |
|
 |
| Transmission |
|
| Automatic transmissions
fail in as many ways as there are car models. In contrast, there are only a few
reasons why anyone needs automatic transmission repair..... |
|
| Transmission Fluids |
|
| The latest
generation of automatic transmission fluids (ATFs) have increased oxidation resistance
for improved longevity. Even so, that doesn’t mean the fluid can be neglected
forever........... |

 |
| Emissions |
|
| In March 2007
the Department for Transport launched the ACT ON CO2 communications campaign to
give advice on how you can help to reduce CO2, providing tips on ’smarter’...... |
|
| Bodywork |
|
| The problem
with this country is that no sooner have you washed and waxed your car the weather
turns it into a muddy, road-grimed shadow of it's former self. For the brief summer
that we do get we don't mind ........ |
|
 |
| Coolant |
|
| The most commonly
overlooked job in car maintainance is failure to top up coolant and adding antifreeze.
Antifreeze usually contains ethylene glycol which has rust inhibitors aswell as
lowering the freezing point of ....... |
|
| Battery |
|
| Batteries are
probably the biggest single cause for non starting, especially in colder weather.
Batteries are less efficient the colder they get so the start of cold weather
usually shows up any inefficiencies with the battery. |
|
 |
| Steering |
|
| Each wheel,
especially the front wheels, have to be balanced so that no vibration occurs.
This is usually done on a machine which spins the wheel and .... |

| Brake Fluids |
|
| Locate your
brake fluid resevoir. It should look similar to the picture. The recommended level
is usually at the seam but should be indicated on the side. Note if the level
is at the seam it is hard to see so you might try lightly rocking the resevoir
to move the fluid inside. |

| Tyres |
|
| The main characteristic
of the summer tyre is excellent driving and braking performance on both dry and
wet roads, in temperatures above freezing throughout the spring, summer, autumn
and winter. A simple block-shape tread pattern ensures the tyre's contact area
remains as rigid as possible, ensuring maximium grip at all times by optimising
friction with the road surface. If the tyre has any special indication on it,
it means this tyre is for summer usage. |

| Oil |
|
| To lubricate-
This requires the maintenance of a slippery surface between moving parts. It is
often referred to as "oiliness." This oil film must adhere very tenaciously to
metal surfaces. It must "stay-put" and resist being shoved away when either hot
or cold, even though it is subjected to high pressures. Unfortunately, there is
no laboratory procedure to fully measure these properties. Actual use in the engine
is the only way to evaluate the oil's ability to lubricate. |
